The antique carpet in the Karastan archives which inspired this design, was no doubt created by a master weaver as exemplified by its graceful lines and balanced pattern. The weavers of Heriz gained a reputation as being extremely skilled at reproducing the patterns of their neighbors in Tabriz...with one important difference...they could not weave a curve. Collectors value Heriz patterns as the design bridge between finely detailed Persian carpets and the more geometric ones found to the north in Turkey and Caucasus.
